About Our Kids
Our children have a life-long developmental disability that prevents them from
communicating and relating to people in a normal, effective manner.
They can see and hear well, but problems seem to arise in organizing and interpreting the information
they receive from their eyes, ears and other senses. Information from the outside world is not formed into
a clear and understandable picture, but remains a confusing frightening muddle. Children who cannot
understand the world around them are cut off and isolated.
This lifetime disability is caused by an underlying physical dysfunction within the brain or central nervous
system - the exact nature of which if unknown although there is a genetic predisposition.
Autism occurs in approximately 1 in 500 live births, affecting four times as many boys as girls.
It is found through the world in families of all racial, ethnic and social backgrounds.
